Igbal Safarov

Utrecht University School of Governance

Igbal Safarov is a PhD researcher at Utrecht University in the Netherlands,  investigating Open Data and data-driven innovations. The specific target of his research is to study increasing use and re-use of open data. He was a winner of the 2017 Enlighten Your Research awards. Igbal is also a co-founder of the Anti-Fraud Lab in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

 

Before his PhD, Igbal worked in public administration at various central executive bodies in the fields of information society and IT strategy development. He collaborates with several international research projects such as Open Data Barometer and The Web Index to investigate government information openness and digital ecosystems in Estonia, Ukraine, Turkey, Moldova and other countries of Eastern Europe.

Igbal received a BSc in Information Technology and MSc in Engineering Economics from Azerbaijan State Economic University, and an MSc in Information Systems from the University of Sheffield, UK.
